About Me
My yarn-loving journey began in 1998, when I joined the military and was stationed in Seoul, Korea. During my time there, I had the opportunity to tour a fabric mill—and that’s when I fell head over heels for fiber arts. However, as much as I adored the colors and textures of the yarns, my focus had to shift back to my military responsibilities, and my newfound passion took a backseat.
It wasn’t until 2009, when I decided to make a newborn blanket for my son, that I rediscovered my love for fiber. With no prior crochet experience, I signed up for a class at Joann Fabrics to learn the basics—and from that moment on, I couldn’t put my crochet hook down.
While I initially focused on scarves and shawls, I soon craved something more. So, I dove into the world of yarn dyeing, and that’s where my true creative spark ignited. The art of dyeing yarn opened up a whole new world of possibility—creating custom colorways, experimenting with textures, and bringing my wildest ideas to life with each skein. It was an instant love affair.
And so, Sassy Black Yarns was born!
I’ve always had a deep fascination with the endless combinations of colors and textures in yarn. Dyeing allows me to channel that creativity into something tangible and beautiful. There’s nothing quite like seeing a blank skein of yarn transform into something vibrant and unique. The possibilities are endless, and that’s what I love most about it.
I’m originally from Hartford, CT, and life hasn’t always been easy. But through every challenge, the fiber arts have been a constant source of joy and inspiration for me. They remind me that life is what you make of it—and that if you can fill it with bright, bold colors, it can be as amazing as a skein of Strawberry Cheesecake!
I want everyone who visits this space to feel welcome and inspired. No matter where you are in your own creative journey, there’s a place for you here!
